Overview
This position involves reviewing transcripts of recorded conversations and applying a structured set of codes to different parts of the text. These codes help categorize key themes and ideas, making the data easier to analyze.
Responsibilities
- Complete your CITI Human Subjects Protection Training
- Attend Training Sessions:
- A 1-hour Zoom training on how to read transcripts and identify key ideas (a process called “highlighting”).
- A 90-minute Zoom training on using a qualitative codebook, which provides definitions for different themes. You will practice tagging highlighted text with appropriate codes to ensure accuracy.
- Weekly check-in calls with a supervisor to provide updates and review quality of work.
- Analyze Transcript Data:
- Review approximately 20 hours of transcripts, identifying and highlighting individual contributions within the conversations.
- Assign relevant codes to each highlighted section based on the provided qualitative codebook.
Timeline
- The bulk of this work should be completed by the end of May 2025.
- Work can be done from home and asynchronous or in-person at the MIT Media Lab, however you prefer. Expect no more than 8 hours/work per week.
Qualifications
- CITI trained (preferred, not required)
- Attention to detail and ability to follow guidelines for categorizing text.
- Strong reading comprehension skills.
- Interest in qualitative research, mixed methods, or social sciences (preferred but not required).
